Paper 1
Revise: Principles of training and overloadSPORT describes the principles of training, while FITT describes features of training that can be adjusted to achieve overload.
Paper 1
Applying a greater-than-normal demand to the body so that training adaptations can occur.
Revise: Principles of trainingThe four principles are specificity, progression, overload and reversibility, remembered using SPOR. They work together: suitable training challenges the body, the body adapts, and the challenge must then increase gradually. If sufficient training is no longer maintained, those improvements can be lost.
In SPORT, P and O belong together: progressive overload. There are four named principles, not five.
When defining progressive overload, include both working harder than normal and increasing the demand gradually.
Distinguish overload from progression: overload is a greater-than-normal demand; progression is increasing that demand gradually over time.
