Revise: Charts for Categorical DataA bar chart makes the frequencies of categories easy to compare. Put the categories on the horizontal axis and frequency on the vertical axis. Choose an even numerical scale that reaches at least the greatest frequency, then draw bars of equal width.

A chart for categorical data in which separate bars have heights proportional to their frequencies.
Revise: Charts for Categorical and Discrete DataFor categorical data, a frequency table, bar chart, pie chart or pictogram may be appropriate. For ungrouped discrete numerical data, a frequency table or vertical line chart can display the frequency at each exact value. “Ungrouped” means that the values have not been combined into intervals.
On a bar chart, use a linear frequency scale, draw equal-width bars and leave gaps between categories.
For a bar chart, use equal-width bars, equal gaps, an even scale and clearly labelled axes. Plot frequency on the vertical axis.
Identify the data type before choosing a chart: categories suit bar charts, pie charts and pictograms; exact discrete numerical values suit vertical line charts.
