The difference between the greatest and smallest values in a dataset.

Revise: Descriptive Statistics: Central Tendency, Spread and PercentagesUnlike the range, it does not depend directly on the smallest and greatest values. Use an average alongside a measure of spread: the median and IQR together describe both a typical size and how closely the central measurements cluster around it. A smaller IQR indicates less variation in the middle half of the data, not necessarily a smaller typical value.

Give the units for averages, quartiles, range and inter-quartile range. Percentage change has a % sign, not the original measurement unit.
Keep units: the mean, median, range and inter-quartile range have the same units as the original measurements.

A useful memory aid is GRaDE: general trend, range or coverage, data quotations, and exceptions. It helps organise an evidence-based description, but you do not need to force an exception into a dataset that has none.
