Specification 9.3 · Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3
The running total of frequencies up to a particular value or class boundary.
For grouped data, distinguish the modal class from a single mode. Values read from a cumulative frequency curve are estimates.
Plot cumulative frequency at upper class boundaries, not class midpoints. A quartile's cumulative frequency gives its position; read its measurement from the horizontal axis.
On a cumulative frequency graph, n/4, n/2 and 3n/4 are positions on the frequency axis. Read the corresponding measurement from the horizontal axis.

Cumulative frequency is a running total. In the waiting-time table, the first two frequencies add to 12. This means that 12 pedestrians waited less than 20 seconds.
