Component 1
Revise: IagoThis relationship with the audience recalls the Vice of medieval morality plays: a tempter who could entertain spectators while revealing evil plans. Iago’s wit can draw an audience into fascination without making his actions acceptable. He also resembles the scheming Machiavel of Renaissance tragedy, apparently mastering others through calculation.
- Revise: Deception and honesty
A stock tempter in morality plays who represents evil and often shares plans with the audience.
