Revise: IagoIago’s wit can draw an audience into fascination without making his actions acceptable. He also resembles the scheming Machiavel of Renaissance tragedy, apparently mastering others through calculation. Shakespeare combines these theatrical traditions with recognisable resentment and insecurity, leaving Iago both disturbingly human and difficult to explain.
