Paper 1
A short speech heard by the audience but conventionally not heard by the other characters on stage.
Revise: Act 1Macbeth says in an aside, ‘Two truths are told, / As happy prologues to the swelling act / Of the imperial theme.’ He treats the two titles as opening scenes leading towards the greater drama of kingship. ‘Happy’ shows his excitement, while ‘swelling’ suggests the growing importance of his ambition.
