A life cycle assessment considers environmental impacts at these different stages. Assessing a carbon footprint involves identifying the greenhouse gas emissions associated with them. Precise measurements can be difficult because many activities and suppliers may be involved, but the assessment helps identify where reductions could be made.

A life-cycle assessment, or LCA, considers environmental effects throughout a product’s life. It helps compare products and identify where their main impacts occur.
