Magisterium

The Magisterium, the teaching authority exercised by the Pope and bishops, interprets scripture and Tradition. Catholic teaching in Dei Verbum explains that this authority serves the Word of God; it is not above it. Catholics therefore reject the idea that scripture alone is sufficient apart from the Church’s living Tradition.
