An Anglican collection of authorised services and prayers, including the 1662 order for Evening Prayer.

Anglican worship can use the Book of Common Prayer, a collection of services and prayers. Its 1662 order for Evening Prayer shows how a liturgy combines several different purposes within one service.

An Anglican book containing orders of worship and set prayers, many of which quote or draw on the Bible.

Support comparisons with named examples, such as Anglican Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer and spontaneous prayer in some Pentecostal churches.

Use the Book of Common Prayer as an Anglican example, not as a book used by all Christians or as another name for the Bible.

The Book of Common Prayer provides authorised services and prayers for the Church of England. It gives both those leading worship and the congregation a common framework. Rather than composing every prayer afresh, worshippers can use words intended to express the Church’s shared faith.
