Bandi Chhor Divas, meaning liberation day, commemorates Guru Hargobind, the sixth Guru, being released from Gwalior Fort. He secured the release of 52 other prisoners rather than accepting freedom for himself alone. Sikhs remember his return to Amritsar after imprisonment by the Mughal emperor Jahangir.
