Revise: Quantitative and Qualitative DataOpen questions allow participants to answer freely. For example, ‘How did you feel while trying to remember the words?’ invites a description. A response such as ‘The music distracted me because I kept thinking about the lyrics’ is qualitative data.

A question that allows participants to answer in their own words rather than choosing from preset responses.
When asked to write a closed question, include its response options. For an open question, allow an answer in the participant’s own words.

An open question lets participants answer in their own words without a fixed set of options. For example: ‘How do you feel social media affects your everyday life?’ One student might describe support from friends, while another might explain feeling distracted from homework.
