Revise: Quantitative and Qualitative DataPsychologists collect data: information that helps them investigate behaviour and mental processes. They might record how many words someone remembers, or ask them to describe how they felt during a memory task. Both are useful information, but they take different forms.
When identifying a data type, name it and link your explanation to what was recorded: for example, a number of words recalled or a participant’s description of their feelings.
Classify the data, not just the research method. A questionnaire, interview or observation can produce different types of data depending on how responses are recorded.
A closed answer such as ‘yes’ is a word, but counting the number of ‘yes’ responses produces quantitative data.
