Paper 1
Revise: Choosing and Evaluating Research MethodsQuestionnaires, interviews, case studies and observational studies gather information without deliberately manipulating an IV. They can describe behaviour and experiences, but do not establish cause and effect on their own. No method is best for every question: choosing well means balancing control, realism, detail, practicality and ethics.

A questionnaire is a self-report method: participants answer predetermined questions about themselves. Researchers can ask about thoughts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that may be difficult to discover simply by watching someone. Questionnaires can be used in surveys to investigate patterns across many people, such as their social media use or health choices.
