The production of a potential difference across a conductor when it moves relative to a magnetic field or the magnetic field around it changes.
Revise: Induced potentialThe same thing can happen if the magnet moves while the wire stays still, or if the magnetic field around a stationary conductor changes. This is the generator effect. It is the reverse energy-transfer idea from the motor effect: rather than using a current to produce movement, movement can produce an electrical output.
