Revise: Marcus Rashford: industries and audiencesOfcom oversees this framework. The responsibilities concern platforms’ systems and processes, not just whether an individual user chooses to report an abusive post. Ofcom has enforcement powers, including substantial financial penalties.
Do not describe social media as entirely unregulated: explain Ofcom’s role under the Online Safety Act 2023, then assess the remaining difficulties.
Distinguish voluntary press self-regulation through IPSO from platforms’ legal duties under the Online Safety Act, enforced by Ofcom. Neither system means that every inaccurate online post must automatically be removed.
Do not confuse Ofcom regulation, the 9pm watershed and the DVD’s 15 certificate. They are different ways of regulating or guiding access to content.
