Paper 1
Revise: The Blitz, V-weapon Attacks and Impact on CiviliansThe press called it Black Saturday. It marked the beginning of the Blitz, the sustained bombing campaign that continued in London until May 1941.
The sustained German bombing campaign against London and other British towns and cities, mainly from September 1940 to May 1941.
Distinguish the main Blitz of 1940–41 from the renewed attacks of 1944–45. Bethnal Green happened in 1943, not during the main Blitz.
Do not treat ‘Blitz spirit’ as proof that everyone remained cheerful. Continuing leisure activities and helping neighbours could coexist with fear, exhaustion and grief.
Keep the main Blitz of 1940–41 separate from the V2 attacks of 1944–45 when using examples of information control.
