Definition

A bomb designed to start fires rather than cause damage mainly through a large explosive blast.

A wave of about 400 bombers dropped high-explosive and incendiary bombs. After a pause, more than 300 aircraft attacked from around 8 pm, with bombing continuing until about 4.30 am. Fires started during the daylight raid helped the night-time bombers find their targets.
