A material added to parts of a garment to give support, stiffness or shape.
Revise: Non-Woven TextilesFusible interfacing supports parts of a garment, helping them keep their shape. A stable bonded web is useful here because support matters more than flowing drape. Its fusible coating attaches the interfacing to the garment when heated; this is distinct from the bonding that originally held the web's fibres together.
- Revise: Reinforcement and Stiffening Techniques
An additional material attached to the inside of a fabric to add support, rigidity or thickness, commonly in collars and cuffs.
