Distributing a small amount of extra fabric along an edge so that it fits another edge without visible folds.

Revise: Textile Shaping TechniquesEasing makes a slightly longer fabric edge fit a shorter one without obvious folds. Temporary loose straight stitching helps distribute the extra length. This is useful when assembling curved features such as an armhole.
Distinguish gathering from easing: gathering produces visible folds; easing distributes a small amount of extra fabric without visible tucks or puckering.
