Revise: GreeceThe pediments were the triangular spaces beneath the roof at the two ends. The eastern pediment showed the birth of Athena; the western pediment showed Athena’s contest with Poseidon for Athens. Together, these subjects emphasised both Athena’s divine status and her particular relationship with the city.
