Paper 1
A rectangular panel in a Doric temple’s frieze, often decorated with relief sculpture.
Revise: GreeceIts twelve metopes depicted Heracles’ twelve labours: six above the eastern front porch, the pronaos, and six above the western rear porch, the opisthodomos. These were relief panels, with figures projecting from a stone background. They decorated the ends of the inner building, rather than forming a cycle around the outer colonnade.
