Revise: The particle modelThe particle model helps us connect properties that we can observe with behaviour on a scale too small to see directly. In this model, a substance consists of many tiny particles. Depending on the substance, one model particle might represent an atom, a molecule or an ion.
Describe each state using both particle arrangement and particle movement; do not rely only on words such as ‘close’ or ‘spread out’.
Do not say that particles themselves expand, melt or become a gas. The spacing, arrangement, movement and energy of the particles change.
