Revise: The particle modelA chemical change produces one or more new substances. During a chemical reaction, atoms from the starting substances become arranged in new combinations, producing substances with different chemical identities and properties. Burning a match and forming rust are chemical changes.
In a particle-diagram question, track the types and combinations of particles. A changed spacing or arrangement indicates a physical change; atoms joined or grouped differently indicate a chemical change.
