On-the-job training

With on-the-job training, an employee learns while doing their actual job, usually under the guidance of an experienced colleague. A shop assistant might watch a colleague demonstrate the checkout, then serve customers with supervision.

On-the-job training takes place in the workplace while employees learn their job duties. An experienced colleague often demonstrates a task, watches the trainee attempt it and provides guidance.
