Do not call the liquid in Bowman’s capsule urine: it is filtrate, which is modified as it travels through the nephron.

Each kidney contains many nephrons. A nephron begins in the cortex, has a section that dips into the medulla, and connects to a collecting duct. This arrangement links the kidney’s visible regions to the route taken by fluid as urine forms.
