Specification B3.3h · Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher)
Revise: Structure of the kidneyAt the centre is the funnel-shaped renal pelvis, which gathers urine and leads into the ureter, the tube carrying urine away from the kidney.
In a labelled kidney section, identify the cortex as the outer region, the medulla as the inner region and the renal pelvis as the central collecting space.
Do not confuse the renal pelvis with the medulla: the pelvis is the space that collects urine before it enters the ureter.
