Revise: The brainThe brain is an organ made from billions of interconnected neurones. Alongside the spinal cord, it forms the central nervous system (CNS). Its neurones receive and process information, communicate with one another and help coordinate suitable responses throughout the body.

Revise: Brain Structure and FunctionThe brain enables the body to process information and control complex behaviour. It forms part of the central nervous system and is made of billions of interconnected neurons. Communication between these nerve cells allows information arriving from the body to be processed and suitable responses to be organised.
When asked for both structure and function, name the brain region, describe where or what it is, and then state what it controls.
Avoid suggesting that each region works alone. Brain regions are interconnected and coordinate their activities.
Match each named brain region to its precise role: cerebral cortex—intelligence, memory, language and consciousness; cerebellum—conscious movement, balance and co-ordination; brain stem—heart rate and breathing rate.
