Vertex
A point where sides or arms meet, such as a corner of a polygon.
Vertical line chart
A frequency diagram for ungrouped discrete numerical data, with a separate vertical line at each value.
Vertically opposite angles
Angles directly opposite each other where two straight lines cross. They are equal.
Volume
The amount of three-dimensional space occupied by an object, measured in cubic units.
Volume scale factor
The multiplier taking a volume to the volume of a similar solid. It is k3k^3k3, where kkk is the linear scale factor.
x-axis
The horizontal axis of a Cartesian plane; positive values lie to the right of the origin and negative values to the left.
x-intercept
The value of xxx where a graph meets the x-axis, so y=0y = 0y=0.
y-axis
The vertical axis of a Cartesian plane; positive values lie above the origin and negative values below.
y-intercept
The yyy-coordinate where a graph crosses the yyy-axis. In y=mx+cy=mx+cy=mx+c, it is ccc.
Zero-product rule
If a product is zero, at least one of its factors must be zero: if AB=0AB=0AB=0, then A=0A=0A=0 or B=0B=0B=0.
