The pair of angles facing each other where two straight lines cross; they are equal.
For vertically opposite angles, check that the lines cross: angles that merely look opposite in a drawing are not necessarily equal.
Do not assume that angles which merely look alike are equal; vertically opposite angles are formed by two intersecting straight lines.
Corresponding and alternate angle rules require parallel lines. Vertically opposite angles do not.

Revise: Parallel Line AnglesAt one intersection, look for angles directly across the crossing point from one another. These are vertically opposite angles, and they are equal.
