Sunnah

Muhammad did not only convey guidance: Muslims regard his life as an example of putting it into practice. His Sunnah, known through accounts including Hadith, influences how Muslims worship, treat their families and behave towards others. His honesty, patience, generosity and care for others provide models for daily conduct.

Reports of his words and actions are preserved in the Hadith, while his example and way of life are called the Sunnah. Muslims use these to help understand the Qur’an and put its teachings into practice. For example, honesty, patience and care for others are qualities Muslims seek to develop by following his example.
