Ibrahim, known as Abraham in English, lived among people who worshipped many gods, but he believed in only one God. He is described as a hanif: someone with a firm understanding of and commitment to monotheism. His example shows that faithfulness to Allah can require rejecting the beliefs and practices of the surrounding society.
