Within Orthodox mystical traditions influenced by Kabbalah, Shekhinah has a place in the symbolic ‘Tree of Life’. It is understood as a way of approaching a deeper awareness of God's presence. This interpretation places greater emphasis on spiritual encounter than on a rational explanation of what people perceive.
