Providing food for a person in need, or money for that food, in place of fasting where a valid exemption applies and the person cannot make up the fast.

Paper 1
Revise: SawmWhere a person remains unable to fast, for example because of lasting illness or frailty, fidyah may apply: providing food for someone in need in place of the missed fast. Detailed rulings, including those concerning pregnancy and breastfeeding, can differ between Muslim legal traditions.
Paper 3
Compensation through feeding a person in need for a missed fast where a person cannot fast because of a lasting condition or extreme difficulty.
Revise: Sawm: Ramadan fasting and issues in BritainWhere a lasting inability makes fasting impracticable, fidyah, feeding a person in need, provides a different response. It is not a general option to buy one's way out of fasting simply because it is inconvenient.
Distinguish making up missed fasts from fidyah. Giving money does not automatically replace the duty to fast.
