Revise: Nature and Purpose of MarriageA celebrant normally helps the couple prepare and leads the ceremony. The couple may write their own promises and choose meaningful music or readings. Optional symbolic actions, such as lighting candles or mixing coloured sand, can represent their union.

A person who prepares and leads a ceremony, such as a funeral. A Humanist celebrant works with relatives and friends to create a personalised, non-religious ceremony.

The ceremony is individually written to reflect that person’s character and wishes. Family members or friends may contribute a tribute, poetry or prose, and music that was meaningful to the person.
