Revise: Energy useEnergy from food is measured in calories, expressed in this topic as Kcal. This stands for kilocalories, usually written as kcal on food labels. Calories measure an amount of energy, not an amount or mass of food.
When explaining an individual's requirement, link the factor to energy use: for example, more exercise means more energy is used, so more calories are needed.
Age affects energy needs, but do not claim that all children need more calories per day than adults.
