Revise: Antagonistic muscle actionMuscles pull; they cannot push a bone back in the opposite direction. They therefore work in antagonistic pairs: muscles or muscle groups with opposing actions. The main muscle producing or controlling a particular movement is the agonist, also called the prime mover.
