A statement comparing a length on a drawing or map with the corresponding real length.

Revise: Scale Factors and MapsA scale connects lengths on a drawing with lengths on the object or place it represents. Every corresponding length changes by the same multiplier. For example, a room plan marked 1 cm represents 2 m uses 1 cm on the paper for every 2 m in the room.

A ratio or statement showing how a length on a map, plan or drawing corresponds to the actual length.
Revise: Scale and BearingsA scale drawing reduces every length by the same proportion, preserving the shape and allowing actual measurements to be represented on paper. Maps, building plans and scale diagrams all use this idea.
The values attached to positions along an axis, including the amount represented by each interval.
In a scale written as 1 : 250 000, both sides refer to the same unit. Convert the real distance to kilometres only after applying the scale.
Check the direction of a scale factor: drawing to real life usually means multiplying; real life to drawing means dividing.
Keep every view to the stated scale. On a square grid, count widths, depths and heights carefully.
