A two-dimensional view of a three-dimensional object seen directly from one side, such as the front or right.

Revise: Plans and ElevationsAn elevation shows what you would see looking straight towards a side: the front elevation from the front, or a side elevation from the named side. These are flat, head-on views, not perspective sketches. Which face counts as the front must be clear before you draw.

Revise: Plans and ElevationsPlans and elevations are accurate 2D views of a 3D shape. They are used in areas such as architecture and product design because several flat views can communicate an object's dimensions more precisely than a perspective sketch.

Revise: Plans and ElevationsPlans and elevations solve this by showing the solid from precise directions. Imagine looking straight towards the object, rather than looking from above and to one side as you might in a photograph.
Check which face is marked as the front before drawing either elevation.
A cube hidden behind another does not create an extra outline in an elevation.
Look straight at the object from the required direction. An elevation is not a perspective drawing, so do not include sloping depth lines.
