A triangle has three straight sides; a quadrilateral has four. Rather than deciding a shape’s name by how it is turned or how it looks, examine its sides, angles and symmetry. On a diagram, matching ticks mark equal lengths, matching arrows mark parallel sides, and a small square marks a right angle.
Do not use the converse of a property without knowing that it is a valid test. For example, one pair of equal opposite sides alone does not prove that a quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
