A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel.
When finding an angle, write the reason as well as the calculation, such as ‘opposite angles of a parallelogram are equal’.
In a classification question, name every shape that satisfies the stated property. A square is also a rectangle, a rhombus and a parallelogram.
When finding an angle, give a geometrical reason such as “opposite angles in a parallelogram are equal” or “co-interior angles on parallel lines sum to ”.

A parallelogram has two pairs of opposite sides parallel. Its opposite sides are also equal, and its opposite angles are equal. You can see why the angle property works by drawing a diagonal: the parallel sides give matching alternate angles in the two triangles formed.

A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel.
Revise: Quadrilateral PropertiesThe special names—parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square, trapezium and kite—tell us that the quadrilateral has extra structure. That extra structure creates properties that can be used to calculate lengths and angles or to justify steps in a proof.
