Termination

Nixon’s administration had already halted termination and restored millions of acres to tribes. Termination was the federal policy of ending recognition of particular tribes and their special relationship with the government. Increased funding for education, healthcare, legal services, housing and economic development followed, alongside greater Native American employment in the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
