Paper 1
Revise: African American Radicalism and Minority Rights MovementsHuey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense in 1966. Influenced by Malcolm X, the Panthers openly carried guns and monitored police behaviour. Their distinctive black berets and leather jackets made their defiance highly visible.
Keep the chronology clear: Malcolm X died in 1965; Carmichael popularised Black Power in 1966. Do not present Malcolm X as a leader of the later Black Panther Party.
