Paper 1
Revise: Military RivalriesPolaris added another form of delivery. It was an American nuclear missile system that could be launched from a submerged submarine. The first successful submerged launch from USS George Washington took place on 20 July 1960; the submarine began its first armed patrol in November 1960, carrying sixteen Polaris missiles.
Keep military alliances, weapons development and space achievements distinct, then explain their connections. Polaris was a nuclear missile system, not a space mission.
