An organisation founded in the USA in 1966 to campaign for women's equality through lobbying, legal challenges and pressure for enforcement of anti-discrimination laws.

Revise: The Women's Movement and LGBTQ+ RightsFriedan helped found the National Organisation for Women (NOW) in 1966 and became its first president. NOW wanted women to participate fully in mainstream American society as equal partners with men. Its methods included lobbying politicians, bringing legal challenges and pressuring federal agencies and employers.
Do not treat NOW and the whole women's liberation movement as interchangeable. They shared goals but differed in organisation and methods.
