Revise: Polycrates' Rise to Power and Public WorksA mole sheltered the harbour. Think of a substantial barrier projecting into the sea: it reduces the harbour’s exposure to waves, making the sheltered water more suitable for ships. Herodotus describes the mole as more than two furlongs long, extending into water as much as twenty fathoms deep.
