Revise: Expansion in AfricaDuring the nineteenth century, British involvement in Africa developed through trade, missionary work, settlement and military intervention. These activities were connected, but they did not follow one master plan. Traders wanted commercial opportunities, missionaries wanted religious and humanitarian change, and governments sought strategic advantages over rival powers.
