Revise: Role of the ChurchThe Church was not a single group acting in complete agreement. It included bishops, who supervised the Church in particular territories, and religious orders such as the Franciscans. Their members could share the aim of conversion while disagreeing over methods, authority and the treatment of indigenous people.
Use dated examples, such as the Franciscans’ arrival in 1524 and Zumárraga’s confrontation with officials in 1530, to support your judgement.
