Golden Age

Calling this a ‘Golden Age’, however, is a judgement rather than a description of everyone’s experience. A magnificent house demonstrates its owner’s wealth, not the living standards of the whole population. To assess the label, we need to ask what improved, who benefited and what remained difficult.
