Revise: Growing OppositionThe Second Continental Congress met on 10 May 1775, by which time fighting had begun. Its responsibilities consequently went beyond petitions and boycotts. It formed the Continental Army and appointed George Washington as commander, giving armed resistance a common organisation and leadership.
